The Beth Goodman Scholarship Award

COPAA will offer Beth Goodman Scholarship Awards for COPAA's 10th Annual Conference in Anaheim, CA. The scholarship helps defray conference travel expenses. Recipients are COPAA members with financial need who have made significant contributions to special-education advocacy. The award is named in honor of the late Beth Goodman, COPAA Board Member and an attorney who dedicated her life to advocating for students with disabilities in the Washington, D.C. area. COPAA welcomes donations for the Beth Goodman scholarship fund, which may be made here.

The scholarship does not include pre-conference skills trainings and expenses (on March 6 and 7). Scholarship will include a stipend in the amount of $600-800 towards travel expenses (depending on the amount of funds donated and travel costs). Recipients will receive complementary registration for the Main Conference on March 7-9, 2008.

Registration Fee Waiver

Qualified individuals whose family income is at or below the federal poverty level may apply for one of a limited number of conference registration fee waivers. Please review guidelines here to determine if you are eligible. If eligible, please send a statement in with your Conference Registration Form verifying that your income is at or below the poverty level.

Ken Archibald Memorial Scholarship Fund

You may also be qualified to apply for the Ken Archibald Memorial Scholarship Fund, created in memory of COPAA Board Member Rose Marie's husband; the fund assists qualified individuals who are at or below the federal poverty level to attend the COPAA conference. More

Dana R. Taylor Memorial Scholarship Fund for Advocacy on Behalf of Children with Traumatic Brain Injury

This fund is created in memory of Dana R. Taylor, a highly-dedicated attorney in Oregon who represented parents of children with disabilities for many years.  Dana was an outstanding attorney who was extremely committed to protecting the rights of students with disabilities and ensuring that they receive a free appropriate public education. Among his cases was Lucht v. Molalla River School District , in which the Ninth Circuit held that parents who prevailed in Complaint Resolution Proceedings could recover attorneys fees. This special scholarship fund is to help people who advocate for children with traumatic brain injuries attend COPAA's conference.
